As I pour steaming tea into two cups, I realize I have been on my feet for over an hour and its not yet 7 am. I hand over the cup to the husband and hasten to sit down. 7 am is clearly the busiest time of my day. My younger son leaves for school, the husband starts his preparations to go to office. Yet, today is a peaceful day as I do not have any early morning calls which typically start at 7.30 am. We take our cups of tea to the balcony from where we can see the son as he boards his school bus. I check the balcony ceiling niches which is host to a few sparrow families. They look cute bundled up with their heads bowed and eyes tightly shut making you long to snuggle into bed again.

Our balcony looks out to a wide street. I will call it street as it has not become a fully functional road yet. I am enjoying it now as in a couple of years, it will become a mighty arterial road. When I had moved to my previous house, we were on a similar road with occasional vehicles. But soon it became an arterial road connecting to different places and the noise became unbearable.

Our street is still picture perfect with two big trees in the center of the road as dividers and some small ones just growing up. At 7 am, the road also experiences its peak activities. Our home is in the center of three schools and two playgrounds. It is a haven for morning walkers and dog walkers. We can see every breed of dog here supported by a whole lot of stray dogs. There are some dedicated dog feeders who get their food in bags to feed the strays. There are the pigeon feeders too.

Then there are the school going children in their bright uniforms, their parents in all sorts of nightwear, yellow school buses and some parents dropping their children on two wheelers and the office goers. There are no auto-rickshaws on this side of the road and so everyone walks over to the rickshaw stand which is about 300 m away which is a blessing.

While the muggles go about their lives, there is a lot going on the trees around. The tree in the middle of the street is full of sparrows and mynas. They are ever eager to tweet their good mornings as they flit on its branches. My balcony being opposite the tree, I have set up a bird feeder. I have also got small creepers and other plants on the balcony. There is a steady stream of sparrows from the tree to the balcony and vice versa.

I wave out to my son as he gets into the bus and I get back to the kitchen for the next round of breakfast preparation. And finally, at 8, solitude.

Are your mornings as hectic? Do you look out for peaceful moments?

Oh yes Lata, my weekday mornings are super hectic from 5 to 7 until both my kids go to school. After that, I go to walk and then the day slows down by 9.
It was interesting to know about your house location.

First of all, please accept my apology for not being able to read the post earlier, I mean during the BogHop time period.
There’s something therapeutic about looking out of window. And your post justified it by clamming me down with your words about the slow steady yet happening world around you.

I loved the account of your morning. To me, with that cup of tea in hand and watching the people down the street would be perfect.
My mornings are busy but I think yours is a lot. 🙂

Mornings are always busting with energy. 6:30 is the time I am in rush, when kids board bus then I go for a walk, with headphones and that is my solitude time.

I loved the views from your balcony, Lata. My mornings are always busy. I have to drop off my kids and husband too. Usually, I will be free after 8. But on Mondays and Fridays, I am never free as the little one stays home on those days. 🙂 I can see how I will look back to these days with nostalgia some years down the lane. 🙂 Glad to see you back here active, Lata.

My mornings are my own . I can decide if I want to get up with the sun or snuggle back with my dreams, until my dog decides it’s time for her walk!

7 am! Oh, the time just after the children leave for school! Sigh! I miss those days looking out from my balcony to check if the kids have boarded their school bus with a cup of tea in hand! And if its the winter, it leaves me full of energy for the rest of the day!

Your words recreated your mornings for me, Lata. I hope that road facing your balcony remains as peaceful as it is now, for a long time to come. So that you and your husband can enjoy innumerable cups of tea and the view together.

I loved the view from your balcony – there’s so much activity yet there was a sense of peace in imagining you with your cup of tea watching it all from afar. Mornings are crazily hectic times for me too. Which is why I rarely get to watch the sun rise but by 7.15 all is peaceful.

Oh yes!! so relatable. At times, I have to drink my coffee while preparing rotis. And after 9.45 I get to complete household chores before 10.30 to hit the gym 🙂

Great you got your cup of comfort at 7, I generally get it after 8 as my kids’ school are from 0830. Once you are over with breakfast, lunch packing then only the cup of tea gives you the much-needed kick, I do take my quicky cup at 0630 also when I prepare masala tea for the complete family but the comfort cup is only after 8. lovely post and so relatable.

Your morning sure starts early Lata ! But it is so peaceful to have the early morning to yourself . My busy hour is from 7-8 and then I have some time to myself .
Your school scene is familiar to mine – but my house is on a main arterial road and is almost always busy .
I love it though – the hustle and bustle that is so typical of Mumbai !

How lovely to have such cute winged visitors, Lata!
My mornings aren’t rushed, thank god for that! I too love sitting in my tiny kitchen balcony and listen to the chirps of these winged cuties in the mangroves that grow below and cover a large area in front of my building. Such peace listening to them, na?

First things first! Now where is your Hot Cup of Kaapi? You switched to tea? Mornings are the busiest for me too. Lunchboxes, breakfast keeps me on my toes. The brief coffee breather is welcome. I too love gazing out my window and observing whatever bit of nature I can. We have lots of parrots residing in a huge peepal tree and these fellows are hyperactive in the mornings. Besides we have lots of mynahs, few sparrows, loads of pigeons and surprisingly quite a few ravens. Yes, mornings viewed through the windows are interesting!

Your mornings are hectic. My mornings are like this when the boys are at home, but now that one is at his project site and the other at college, I have totally relaxed mornings. But guess what, I am longing for that madness! 😀
Your apartment area seems to be similar to ours. It’s peaceful but it wont stay this way for long.
